Horse riding tour: “Discover nomadic lifestyle”


Kubanychbek is a guide and interpreter who has been working in tourism industry of Kyrgyzstan since 2005. He has an extensive experience of work with international tourists from different countries as well as an excellent knowledge of the most beautiful places and sights of Kyrgyzstan.

As for his language skills, Kubanychbek speaks fluent French and English, which guarantees that you won’t have any language barrier with him and certainly will learn a lot of interesting things about Kyrgyzstan.

Currently Kubanychbek collaborates with several travel agencies, including French, Belgian and Polish companies. Besides, he organizes horseback riding, trekking, cultural and mixed tours upon request.

Day 1: Bishkek – Chong Kemin

Transfer to Bishkek. Breakfast. After the city tour, we head to Karool-Dobo village in Chong Kemin valley. On the way just, we visit the Burana Tower – an architectural complex from the 10th to 11th century and an important point on the Great Silk Road. After lunch, we can take a short walk around the village to Karool-Dobo and to the Orto Kaindi Gorge. In the evening we will return to the village to stay overnight in a home stay and have dinner.

Day 2: Chong Kemin (Kayindi) – Chelek lake (first day of the horse trek)

After the breakfast; we will travel by car along the river of Chong-Kemin to the Kol-Almaty Jailoo. Upon arrival lunch will be served in the shepherd’s yurt or there is the option of having a picnic outside. After lunch we will make a short trek to the nearby mountain lake Chelek. This day will be the acclimatization day to prepare for the trek through the high pass on the following day. Оvernight in a traditional Kyrgyz yurt. Dinner will be served in the evening.

Day 3:  Chelek lake – Ayuluu-Tor valley

Today we will have a long day ahead. Early morning at 07:00 o’clock we’ll have a short breakfast, then start climbing to the pass of Ak-Suu through rocky mountain trails. At the foot of the pass you will see the glaciers. After a small break and brunch we will continue our journey to the pass. We’ll reach the long-awaited rise to the top of the pass of Ak-Suu at 4,050m above sea level, and then descend to Chong Ak-Suu gorge and the alpine meadow Ayuluu-Tor to set up the tent and campsite.

Day 4:  Ayuluu-Tor valley – Karakol

After a late breakfast and spending some time enjoying the nature, we will continue the trek following the river of Chong Ak-Suu. This place is fantastic for picking fresh and wild mushrooms. There, we will break for lunch and have a picnic in the open field. In the afternoon we will begin the descent to Issyk Kul lake (second biggest alpine lake in the world), where our car will pick up us and transfer to Karakol. Time to take a shower. Dinner at the local restaurant. B&B will be the homestay.

Day 5: Karakol – Bokonbaev village

After the breakfast, we will see the Dungan Mosque and the Holy Trinity Cathedral in order to understand the life of Kyrgyz people in the 19th century. Then we drive to Jeti Oguz valley.After the short walk in Jeti Oguz valley, we take our picnic and we drive to the Fairy Tale canyon. Dinner and overnight in guest house Gulmira or Baytour yurt camp near the lake.

Day 6: Bokonbaev village – Kochkor – Song Kol

This morning we visit the ancient family of eagle hunting and have a chance to take a photo with the real eagles and falcons. Then we go to Kochkor. After the felt show in handcraft center, we take our lunch in the real Kyrgyz yurt. Then we continue our trip to Song Kul via Moldo Ashu pass. Dinner and overnight with the nomad family in Kumduu Suu.

Day 7: Kumduu Suu – Tash Dobo

At the morning we take the breakfast and we meet our horses and our team. After the short instruction, we begin our horseback trek to Joloman’s yurt camp in Tash Dobo. On the road we take our picnic in historical place named “Manas stones”. This afternoon we have a chance take a hot shower in hand made shower bath. Dinner and night in yurt camp.

Day 8: Tash Dobo – Tular Tash

Today third day of our trek around the Son Kol, we continue to explore the amazing culture of semi-nomadic life. After three or four hours of horseback riding we join our family. Lunch under the blue sky. This afternoon we profit to take some training course on the horses. Dinner and night in yurt.

Day 9: Tulpar Tash – Tuz Ashuu

After the breakfast,  we will have three to four hours of trek. We have a lunch with our family in Tuz Ashuu. After the lunch, we say bye to our team and we go on the Beach of Song Kol Lake for a few hours. Last dinner and overnight in yurt.

Day 10: Tuz Ashuu – Kochkor

Toiday is the last horseback riding day. After breakfast we leave Song Kol lake via the Kyzart pass. We will stop for picnic and in the afternoon we will get to the main road between Kyzart and Kochkor village. Here we will stop to get some rest and have a picnic and afterwards, we’ll continue our trip by bus. Dinner in Kochkor village with a folk show. Overnight stay in a homes stay with Nurjan’s family.

Day 11: Kochkor – Bishkek

After  breakfast, transfer to Bishkek. Lunch on the road in Boom Canyon. Arriving to the Hotel at 16 o’clock, we have a few hours for take a shower. This evening, we going to explore Bishkek by night. Local resto and bar wait us. Night at the Hotel ***.

Day 12: Transfer to Manas International Airport

Notes :

  • No visa is required for the USA, UE, Japon and Canada citizens: (total of 59 countries, up to 60 days, 6 month passport validity) www.mfa.kg . Simply provide the passport of six months validity.  
  • Dinner and camp gear will be provided by the guide.
  • Provide your personal medicines because the guide has only first aid kit.
