If we continue our trip up the gorge, we will find Kairak waterfall. This waterfall is almost 60 m high and surrounded by unique spruce forests with mossy grass up to 40 cm thick. You can also reach the waterfall by a dirt road, surrounded by picturesque forests rich in flora and fauna. Just 9 km from the fork, about 2 hours walk with stops for rest.
On the way to Turgen gorge, along the same river, you can reach Assy plateau (2560m). It is a large intermountain valley, about 40 km long and up to 10 km wide located about 2700 meters above sea level. The plateau is situated between the basins of the Shelek and Turgen rivers. On the top of the plateau there is Assy-Turgen astronomical observatory with 1-meter telescope used for scientific researches.
The high plateau faces the Assy River in the east, and this has great perspectives in terms of creating a world-class ski resort.
In ancient times caravans from Europe to China and India passed here. The Turgen Gorge is famous for its waterfalls and relict Chin-Turgen mossy trees growing on the permafrost. Besides, here you can find coniferous and mixed forests, alpine and subalpine meadows, lakes and springs, medicinal plants and berries.
